HPE News

Our two soccer teams were finally in action again last Friday in the next round of matches v LDSS. In the Seniors, St. Mary's played strongly putting together many exciting passages of play, and running out victors in all three games played-3-0, 2-0 & 1-0.

Special mention to Vice Captain Kaitlyn L who bagged a hat-trick of goals, and to Bailey D who was unstoppable in the centre forward position, finding the back of the net twice. Captain Abbey W showed determination, stealing the ball several times, while Sebastien L and Christian V had strong games in defence, reducing the Laidley District shots on goal to only two. Christian also scored a great individual goal. Harry J also showed great footwork, and put through many well-placed passes to unmarked team mates. We look forward to the next games this Friday at the Rec Grounds from 1:00pm.

Track & Field

Excitement is building for the annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival which will take place at the Rec Grounds next Friday, June 22. All students have been busy practising their running events during sports lessons, and many field event competitions are nearing completion. Once again it would be great to see a large crowd of spectators there to cheer the runners on. The day begins at 9am sharp with the traditional Interhouse March Past and National Anthem, before moving into the sprint heats. There will be an exciting addition to the programme this year, with the introduction of the Father Fouhy Sprint, which will see the top 8 male and 8 female sprinters in the school selected to compete in open 100m sprint races to conclude the day. Our Year 6 leaders have also been learning some new Japanese war cries to sing, which will add a multicultural flavour to what is shaping up to be a great event.
